GMRS Guide

About GMRS Guide

Independent buying guides for GMRS and ham radio, written for families, trail groups, preppers and new radio operators.

Editorial policy Updated · We earn a commission when you buy through our Amazon links.

GMRS Guide exists to answer one question well: which one should I buy? Most GMRS and ham radio content online is either a manufacturer's marketing or a list of whatever pays the highest commission. We try to do the opposite: start from what you're actually trying to do, and recommend the product that fits, including telling you when you don't need to spend more.

Who we write for

Our readers are families, trail groups, preppers and new radio operators. We write in plain language, explain the specs that actually matter, and say who each product is wrong for, not just who it suits.

What our recommendations are based on

We base every pick on evidence we can point to: FCC rules (47 CFR Part 95 for GMRS and Part 97 for amateur radio), manufacturer specifications and certification data, and Amazon sales and rating data. We publish the details of our process on our How we research page.

Licensing and rules content is checked against current FCC pages and linked to them. Radio recommendations labeled How we pick are research-based: specifications, certification status and long-term owner feedback.

How we make money

GMRS Guide is reader-supported. When you buy through our links to Amazon, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Commissions never decide which product we recommend, and we don't accept payment for placement. See our privacy and affiliate disclosure.

Keeping guides current

Products, prices and availability change constantly. Each guide shows the date it was last updated, and we re-check our recommendations and product data on a regular schedule. If something has changed, we update the page rather than leave old advice in place.
