For radios with a Kenwood-style 2-pin jack, which covers most Retevis and Baofeng models, the Retevis acoustic-tube earpiece with a Kenwood-style 2-pin plug is the best seller and the easy pick. For Midland GXT and LXT radios, get an ear-clip headset that lists your model. For a BTECH PRO radio, go wireless with the BS-22.
Whatever you choose, check that the listing names your exact radio. That one step prevents most earpiece returns.

How we picked
We searched Amazon for "walkie talkie earpiece" and "midland earpiece" on October 13, 2026. We kept earpieces whose listings name the radios they fit. Sales led the shortlist. The commountain listen-only earpiece showed 2,000+ purchases last month, the Retevis acoustic-tube 10-pack 1,000+, and the Motorola swivel earpiece 500+ on 3,800+ ratings.
We then covered each common plug type with at least one pick, plus a wireless option. Compatibility comes from each listing's own model list, which is what you should trust too.
"How we pick" means we compared listings and specs; we didn't wear these earpieces for a shift. How we research.

Built from the compatibility lists in each product's Amazon listing. Two plugs can look alike and still be wired differently, so an adapter is a gamble.

Motorola HKLN4604 swivel earpiece
Motorola's own swivel earpiece, and the most-rated earpiece here at 3,800+. It replaces the RLN6423, so if your business radio took that model, this is the direct swap. The soft C-ring sits in the outer ear rather than inside it, which many people find easier to wear all day. It isn't meant for Talkabout consumer radios.
- BrandMotorola
- Stylesoft rubber C-ring, swivel

BTECH BS-22 Bluetooth speaker mic
For the "wireless earpiece" crowd with a BTECH PRO radio. The BS-22 pairs over Bluetooth, so the radio can stay in a pack or a vehicle mount while you talk from your shoulder strap. Programmable keys handle volume and channel, it's IP54 against rain, and it charges by USB-C. BTECH notes audio-only use with some Icom and Yaesu radios.
- ConnectionBluetooth, under 10 m

commountain 3.5 mm listen-only earpiece
The best seller in the search at 2,000+ last month, for a reason: if you already have a shoulder speaker mic, this adds private listening without replacing anything. You hear through the earpiece and talk through the mic. Commountain notes it's not intrinsically safe, so it isn't for hazardous-atmosphere work.
- Plug3.5 mm
- Typelisten only, no mic
- Styleacoustic tube with ear hook

Before you buy
Check the box your radio came in
Plenty of radio packs include earpieces already. Midland sells the GXT1000VP4 "with Headsets," and the pxton four-pack lists four earpieces in the box. Try those before buying more.
PTT or VOX
Push-to-talk on the cord is the reliable choice. VOX is hands-free, but wind or an engine can key the radio and tie up a shared channel. Use VOX when you're still and it's quiet.
Wireless, realistically
Bluetooth needs the radio to support it. The BTECH GMRS-PRO and UV-PRO do, and our GMRS-PRO vs UV-PRO comparison covers their audio options. Most FRS family radios don't, so for them a wired earpiece is the only option.
Comfort and hearing
Keep the volume at the lowest level you can understand, and if you keep turning it up in noise, fix the fit or switch to a style that seals better. Swap acoustic tubes when they yellow or crack; they're cheap.
Wearing and using an earpiece
Push the plug all the way in. On 2-pin radios, a plug that's only partly seated is the usual reason for no audio, or for a radio that keys up by itself. If the radio's own speaker still plays, the plug isn't home.
Press the PTT, pause a beat, then talk. Radios take a moment to start transmitting, and the first word gets clipped if you start too fast. Let go when you're done and listen before talking again; only one person on a channel can be heard at a time.
Clip the PTT where your hand falls naturally: a collar, a pack strap, a chest pocket. Route the cord under a jacket so branches and seat belts don't yank it out.
For small ears and kids, an acoustic tube with a small or soft eartip, or an ear clip that sits outside the ear canal, is more comfortable than a hard earbud. Most acoustic-tube kits are sold with standard mushroom tips, so look for packs that mention spare or different-size tips if fit is a concern.
Cleaning is simple: wipe the earbud and PTT with an alcohol wipe, and don't share earbuds without swapping the tip.
